29th CG Boost Art Challenge for 3D Artists - Improve your 3D Skills!
For our 29th challenge, we received 255 submissions (which is a new record).
Our jury had a good but also hard time judging all the great accepted submissions. Each judge voted for their own top 5 artworks. We also picked three random winners for the challenge raffle, see all the winners below.
Regrading the prizes, we will contact the winners during the next few days.

We’re congratulating Florian Linke for winning the first place!
“The tree house built by survivors out of the remnants of wrecked ships that got lost and crashed down the waterfalls is meant to portray the will of people to not give up and survive, no matter the circumstances. This is my first participation, and during the creation of this project I had to learn about many new things like adaptive subdivision and volumes. It took me the whole month to complete, because I am not very advanced (yet), and overall it was really just a lot of fun experimenting around.“

Martin Klekner: “Nicely detailed environment with a nice lighting and a nice hint at a story. Reminds me of loading screens from some of my favorite isometric RPGs!”
Darko Vucenik: “For some reason, pirates and tree houses go so well together. The way this scene is set up with the shipwreck house on top of that surreal tree trunk that leads right into the cave gives me such a séance of adventure. It makes me wonder what is the story behind this place. The scene is very rich in detail with great storytelling.”
Cedric Van der Kelen: “Originally my favorite, but the contrast of elements could’ve been made stronger, and the whole piece falls a bit flat on color and contrast.”
Gregory Smith: “This treehouse is a really fun design. The pirate concept is very easily readable, and means that we can have fun creating different narratives for this environment.”
Aidy Burrows: “The scale and depth really comes through here, I really like the gnarly design of the extended tree and how the branches wrap around and support the structure. Great work!”
Wybren van Keulen: “All the elements of a pirate’s nest are present, the misty falls and dark cave complete the atmosphere.”
Ken Liang: “Great idea and composition. Love the detail of the treehouse design that uses recycled shipwreck parts. I also like how creative and imaginative it is in terms of how the scene is laid out, from the opening of the cave, leading out towards the house on this huge overarching tree root. I’d imagine there’s also a secret entrance hidden through a waterfall nearby.”
Masha Bazueva: “This is absolutely my favorite one! I love everything of this submission: the colors, the composition, the overall atmosphere of this work is magic :) Also, I really like the design of the house that not only looks cool, but also it is clearly made out of the remains of a Pirate ship! Great work!”

“I’ve been willing to do some environment art for a while, but have never done any other than characters and props, so I thought it’ll be good to start from a small one. And then I saw this challenge.
The idea is from a photo of mushrooms and a photo of a city on the mountain. It took me about a week to get here, I wanted to use this project to learn some geometry nodes, so I scattered a lot in it.“

Martin Klekner: “I love the combination of the little stylized houses and all their colors with the realistic natural scene. In my opinion, the composition is leaning a bit to the right, but it’s just a minor flaw. Really like this one!”

Cedric Van der Kelen: “sweet composition and color use. The detail balances nicely out. Visually the strongest, but I’m missing a centerpiece or story element to really boost the piece.”
Lukas Walzer: “Simple and surprising, this image turns the challenge topic kinda upside down and left me with a smile on my face. On top of the original idea and composition, it’s overall just lovely made and everything is in its place. Breathtaking!”
Aidy Burrows: “Excellent use of the theme here – now this is a house! What would happen if someone could extend their property indefinitely! Almost a little like the house from the Edith Finch game. I really like the colors and how they seem to sparkle on the distant tree. Great job!”

“Most of all, I associate a tree house with childhood, friendship and a feeling of freedom. I wanted to summarize these beautiful things in one picture. I hope I can give the viewer a feeling of warmth and security and awaken their memories of their own childhood.
That was the first project I did with Eevee. That’s why I learned a lot about this powerful rendering engine in the process.
The entire process took about eight hours to complete.”

“An abandoned treehouse in the middle of nowhere. What happened here? Why is it abandoned? And is it really abandoned?
When I heard of the Treehouse prompt, I knew it would be a new challenge for me. I went with an overgrown marshland area with an abandoned treehouse. Learned a lot of things like modeling large epic trees and creating a post-apocalyptic look to my environment. The treehouse was created by combining multiple ideas and references to be a unique design. Botaniq helped in the process for some vegetation too. Overall, I would say this was incredibly useful for me as I had to create a compelling composition which reads well.
It took around 2 days to come up with an idea and another 3 days to actually build the scene.”

Darko Vucenik: “I just love that rich golden light streaming into the scene through the such rich, beautiful foliage. The way house is incorporated with the trunk of the tree and the roots makes it look quite natural.”
Ewa Wierbik: “Overall, I like the soft lighting on this render, as well as very calm colors. Light might be a little bit more focused on the treehouse and little pond, but other than that it feels very nice and relaxing.”
Marius Iatan: “Not the usual kind of tree house, but a very nice scene nevertheless. I like the thick vegetation, the setup over the lake and how the house merges into the tree trunk. Great work!”
Aidy Burrows: “Really nice lighting, simple color scheme, but it works well to keep it warm and inviting. Excellent use of foliage and generally the texture and material work here is super well done. :)”

“So, this render is about a couple that has 4 kids and lives in a big treehouse.
I wanted to create a render that still looks good but without destroying my old laptop, haha, so I came up with this concept, a big treehouse in a sea to avoid using a lot of particle systems and stuff like that.
I made this render in 16 days, I started blocking out the scene and modeling the island, the tree using skin modifier in blender, making the characters in character creator and do all the detailing.
I used Botaniq only for the ivy and a few plants and also make my original version, so I don’t really rely on that add-on. The 3d assets that I used are: the small boat, little bird, a fishing rod, and a small rock. Except for that elements, I modelled everything and for the textures, I used the textures from ambient CG and texture heaven.
This scene took 4 hours to render, and I did some color correction in Photoshop.“

I like how the house seams to support the tree as much as the tree is supporting the house. Nice slice of life moment with great technical execution.”
Ewa Wierbik: “I like the idea of the lonely rock on the ocean with treehouses. It’s a very calming and nicely made scene. Falling leaves and people doing their everyday routine make it look even more realistic.”

Wybren van Keulen: “I’m pretty sure that not a single chestnut tree would survive on that rock, but hey it looks awesome. You clearly had fun designing this complex, with all the different floors, and the dock is a beautiful touch.”
